There are many reasons to break up, but some are much more common than others. If any of these things occur during your relationship, it is most likely time to break up and find another love. Otherwise, you should try to continue to work on your problems together, as a couple.
Remember: The first answer to a marriage is communication. If communication fails, seek counselling. Finally, if that doesn’t work, it is time to talk about divorce.
When it is time to break up
An abusive relationship.
Get out now! Whether or not you think you love him (or her) you need to get out. You are physically and most likely mentally abused. You may regret it in the short term, but long term you are much better off. Yes, even if you have children, get out now! And, you might even want to file for a restraining order.
There’s no trust.
The single most important part of any relationship is trust. If you don’t have it, it’s time to end it. Trust comes in both mental and physical ways. If you don’t have either, then you need to break up.
You found someone else.
Yes, this actually needs to be said. You should not stay with your partner if you are having thoughts of being with someone else. Even if you are in an open relationship, it’s still not possible to have an equal relationship with both. End it.
There’s a loss of interest.
Over time, it is possible to simply lose interest in one another. It might be sexually, it might be emotionally, but whatever the reason, you should still end it.
Seeing no future together.
If you are in a relationship and you aren’t able to see yourself with your partner a year from now, it’s time to end it. If you simply want the “benefits” which come along with having a significant other, you should try to convince them to be friends with benefits instead. With that said, you need to end the relationship now. Both you and your partner will be better off.
As I said earlier, there are many reasons to break up, but these are some of the most common. However, if the problem is small (and most problems are), then it can simply be solved through communication. Most problems can. You simply need to talk to him/her about your feelings and work out a compromise.
If a compromise can’t be made, then it is time to end it. If you are unhappy, end it. Life is short. We should attempt to be happy every moment of it.
