Risha, 14, was stabbed while crossing the street in front of her school on a footbridge on Wednesday. The eighth grader died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning.
Raising different slogans, the students demanded arrest of the culprit within 24 hours.
Ganajagaran Mancha Convenor Imran H Sarker also joined the protests, bdnews24.comphotojournalist Abdul Mannan reported from the spot.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid went there around 11:55pm and assured of taking necessary measures to bring the culprit to book.
“Today I will talk to the prime minister over this. The brute must be tried,” he said.
Around 1:30pm, DMP’s Ramna zone Deputy Commissioner Shibli Noman had urged the students to call off the movement and go back to classes.
He assured that ‘Obaidul’, the alleged killer, will be arrested within the next 48 hours.
According to case details, Obaidul was a worker of a tailoring shop at Eastern Mollika Shopping Complex at Elephant Road.
Quoting Risha’s mother Tania Begum, Ramna police OC Moshiur Rahman said Obaidul had been ‘harassing’ the 14-year-old over for some months.
Risha’s mother filed a case accusing Obaidul with the police station on Wednesday after the attack on her daughter.
The OC said Obaidul had left the job two months ago. Police have quizzed four workers of the tailoring shop, but they are yet to catch him.
Willes Little Flower School and College’s HSC final year student Muntasir Mamun, also the convenor of the movement, told reporters: “We are calling off the movement until 12 pm tomorrow (Tuesday). We want to see the killer arrested by then.”
He called upon all educational institutions across the country to hold a human chain on Aug 31 demanding justice for Risha.
Risha was the fourth among six siblings. Her father Ramzan Hossain is a cable operator.
