BTRC will take immediate action to online harassment on social networks using victims’ name and images and running obscene pages with the intent of harassment. The commission will take punitive actions within 24 hours after a complaint has been filed for online harassment or criminal activities. The perpetrator will be brought to justice within three days after the complaint is filed.
BTRC spokesperson Md. Sarwar Alam provided contacts where victims can lodge complaint: “People can lodge complaint by calling the number +880-29611111 or 01766678888 or by emailing to the address – email@example.com”
In response to a query about what course of action BTRC will pursue, he said: “Victims who have faced harassment on Facebook, Google+ or Twitter may go to law enforcement agencies to complain. In that case, steps will be taken if we receive that complaint through law enforcement agencies. Victims can call or email straight to BTRC as well. BTRC will remain by the victims’ side on the event of online harassment. These are the attempts taken to reduce cyber crimes in the country.”
