The long wait for Mashuk Miah ended.
His daughter Khadija Begum Nargis called ‘Abbu’, regaining consciousness after many days.
Khadija, now fighting for her life at the capital’s Square Hospitals, was brutally hacked by a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader on 3 October.
After a long wait, Khadija gained consciousness, said her family.
Khadija’s father Mashuk Miah, who returned home on 6 October from Saudi Arabia, told the Prothom Alo, “She called me ‘Abbu’ today very quietly.”
“Khadija, I think, could identify me, her mother and others slightly. The physicians told us that she would be shifted to the cabin shortly within two to four days,” said Mashuk Miah.
He also added that Khadija can now take liquid foods without the help of equipment.
Mashuk Miah also said that the physicians think Khadija will improve significantly within two to three months.
Khadija is now taking treatment at the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Square Hospitals.
Rejaus Sattar, a neurosurgeon of the hospital, told the Prothom Alo that Khadija can now move her right limbs but feels pain when moving her left hand and leg.
She underwent surgery in her right hand on 17 October.
On 3 October, BCL’s Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit assistant secretary Badrul Alam hacked Khadija mercilessly after she rejected his offer to have an affair with him.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals saved Khadija and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to the police.
